PREPARATION OF LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION PROGRAMS FOR THE OLD – LITERATURE REVIEW

There is a considerable amount of research regarding older people’s physical
activity, behaviour and lifestyle and its effects on health status and quality of
life. As demodraphic aging is going on in our society, it is the interest of all
nationss to maintain quality of life, functional capacity and independence of
their citizens as they age. Physical activity is one of the best ways to a healthy
aging process. Thoroughly designed lifestyle intervention programs developed
especially for the old can be very effective both to maintain physical fitness and
psychological well-being.
The aims of this literature review were to review 1. the most important in-
fluencing factors of older people’s participation in regular PA, 2. the recommen-
dations of the types and amount of PA for older adults.
The articles and dissertations reviewed in this study were found in the online
library of Semmelweis University in Proquest, Ovid – Sportdiscuss, Psychinfo
databases and in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, issued by Human
Kinetics.
In general it has to be stated that thoroughly-designed programs, with reliable
scientific background contribute to the improvement of quality of life of the
participants, their physiological and psychological well-being.
