Abstract

  1. Our purpose was to examine the practical effect of short-term high-dose
oral creatine-monohydrate on anaerobic performance of elite fin
    swimmers.
  2. The examination was conducted among young (age: 15. 9 ± 1.6) healthy
elite fin swimmers (n=16) through a double-blind trial and with the help
of a randomised group-division. One of the groups (CR; n = 8) was ob-
    tained creatine-monohydrate supplement (4×5 g/day for 5 days) while
the other group received placebo (4×5 g maltodextrin/day for 5 days).
  3. Before and after the supplement the subjects performed a – 60s maximal
intensity continuous jumping exercise – Bosco-test [3.]. We examined
the mechanic performance heart rate body mass in rest after load and at
the 5th minute of the restitution we determined blood-lactate concentra-
    tion with enzymetic photometric method.
  4. After treatment in the one minute average output we experienced signifi-
cant (AP: +20%; p<0.002) performance increase and also a significant
    (1/15s. AP:+17%; p<0.006, 2/15s. AP:+24%; p<0.008, 3/15s. AP:+19%;
    p<0.02, 4/15s. AP:+22%; p<0.003) performance increas was percieved on
the 4×15s split average output in group CR while it did not change in
group P. After load (Tmax: –17%; p<0.04) and at the 5th minute of restitu-
tion (R5’: –19%; p<0.0002) we perceived significant decrease in blood-
lactate with group CR With group P. after load an insignificant decreas
and in R5’a significant (R5’: –13%; p<0.03) decreas of lactate concentra-
tion was percieved. The difference between means in heart rate before and
after treatment is not considerable in neither of the groups. We experi-
enced significant (TTM: +2%; p<0.007) fat-free body mass growing in
group CR and a significant (TTM: –1%; p<0.04) lowering in group P.
  5. As a conclusion we claim that during a 5 day 20g/day creatine-
monohydrate dosing the anaerobe performance is significantly increases.
