Abstract

The purpose of this study is to characterize basic body constituent fea-
tures of individual team players adopting Drinkwater and Ross’ anthropom-
etrical method, with particular emphasis on deviations from the average in
body fat and muscle volume. Heath and Carter’s categorizing procedure is
used to determine the particular build types of players, in association with
their specific roles in the team. A somatotype-theoretic comparison is made
between the players of the handball team and athletes in other sports on the
one hand and non-athlete college students on the other. The team’s perform-
ance is estimated by testing some handball-specific motor skills of the players.
