Abstract

According to the forecast of the research project titled „In a race with the
world”: „XXI. Century will be the century of information, communication
and tourism”. In fact, nowadays the income from tourism grows within the
Gross Domestic Product in most countries all over the world. 12% of the
GDP originate from the tourism in our country. Hence there is a bigger
chance of finding a job in connection with the touristical area. The National
Developement Plane declared, that the developement of the tourism focused
on the Budapest, Big Lakes, incentive and the health tourism.
We can divide health tourism into two parts: One part of, the health tour-
ism is medical tourism, where we can find some illness or deformation and
the main aims are treatments and cure. That’s why the target group is the
older people in this area. Another field is wellness tourism, where the main
value is Health, and therefore the emphasis is on prevention. The target
group is wild, because wellness treatment is also open for the younger peo-
ple. If we considerate the demand of health tourism increse. What was the
reason that the government protected and protecting this field?
Because health tourism:
– Not seasonal, we can find demand throughout the year.
– As a result of wellness treatment the number of days spent here in-
crease.
– Parallel to the increasing number of nights spent here the utilisation of
accommodation possibilities would also grow.
– Profitable.
– Multiplication effect is strong.
– Hungary has a lot of spa, so we have a good background.
– There are many health problems in Hungary.
– Health condition of Hungarians is very poor. Cyclical sports and re-
laxation therapy which develop endurance, are good prevention for
illness.
In 2002 the Hungarian Touristical plc. declared the criteria of Wellness
Hotels, and then in 1 year later born the law in connection with the criteria of
hotels. This criteria followed the definition of health. According to the
World Health Organisation: Health is the physical, mental and social well-
being. This criteria of Wellness hotels require bath, sauna, beauty, therapy
and relax services, social events, sports facilities (with animation) and re-
form gastronomy. PE teacher can organise and lead a wild range of sport
program. We can see that recreational activity and sport are one alternative
of the touristical product development in connection with health tourism.
