Hungarian test result and public health data show a tragic picture of the
mental health of students in primary and secondary education. There is an
increase ion the number of deviant students, that of drug addicts, students
suffering from neurasthenic symptoms/neurasthenia and that of students
involved in crime. The tendency is by no means positive among university
students./There is a negative tendency also among university students.
Question: How much is the teacher of the next century prepared to edu-
cate a mentally injured generation, or does their personality create a stressful
situation for the students?
Aim of investigation:
– To present the mental state of adolescent students and teacher trainees
with respect to anxiety tests.
– To examine the conflict solving and copping behavior abilities of
teacher trainees in physical education.
Subject of examination:
1. adolescent students (N=150/2 groups);
2. teacher trainees (N=120/3 groups).
Applied methods: Anxiety questionnaires:
1. a) SASC-H „Social Anxiety Scala of Children” – A.H. La Greca,
1988.
b) RTT-H „Reaction to Test” – I.G. Sarason and K. Sipos, 1988.
2. a) H. STAI-STATE, H.STAI-TRAIT (K. Sipos, 1988)
b) Olah A.: „Szorongas Lekuzdesi mod Preferncia Kerdoiv”, ELTE
1993.
Results and Conclusion:
The group of adolescent students specialized in physical education shows
a more favorable anxiety figure than that shown by other adolescent stu-
dents. Among teacher trainees of physical education those who regularly do
physical exercise are more able to solve conflicts and have a better coping
behavior than their top athlete classmates and those who do not exercise
regularly. Regular body exercise is a fundamental (important) factor in pre-
venting and coping with distress. – The results of Exercise Psychology
should purposefully applied in body exercise.
