Every person’s direct interest and goal is to foster physical and mental health, well-being, welfare, and to stabilize his or her organism and personality. This specific goal is achieved through personal lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle, including doing sports regularly, is an activity that helps and assures the optimal operation of the body. In our research, we examined how different social influences affect sporting habits; and how important they are in different decision-making situations related to sports. Questionnaire was used to examine lifestyle, value system, attitude towards physical activity and impact of value mediation, upbringing and social interaction on 10-14-year-old children, parents and grandparents living in the Northern Hungarian region. The most influencing factors and persons on the sporting habits of children who do sports regularly or occasionally are not just parents, siblings and grandparents but also intrinsic motivation, friends, peer groups and the media. Mothers who do sports regularly or occasionally consider physical exercise more important than non-sporting mothers, with significant differences in results (p<0,05). The correlation test showed that fathers who do sports regularly or occasionally consider physical activity a priority (or more important) compared to non-sporting fathers (p<0,05). The sport activity of the family members enhances the child’s activity as well. Physical activity is more likely to occur among children whose parents or siblings are athletic; and whose parents support, encourage, and assist them to do sports. Based on the results of the examination, it is proved that the value mediating role of parents and grandparents is decisive and plays a prominent role in joint sports activities.
