The Impact of Government and Regime Changes in Marosvásárhely The City’s Leadership in the First Decades of the Twentieth Century
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the consequences of the regime change in Marosvásárhely, with particular emphasis on the personnel changes and political processes that occurred. From this perspective, the events in Marosvásárhely, similar to typical narratives of regime changes in Transylvania, sought to avoid merely being swept along by the unfolding circumstances, despite their vulnerability. Consequently, prior to the collapse, the former elite of city leadership withdrew from politics, making way for second-tier groups, largely lacking political experience, which oversaw the regime change. The establishment of Romanian rule involved a complete turnover of personnel, while previous political leaders, including György Bernády, re-engaged in shaping political processes.
