About the Journal
The journal East-Central European Historical Studies is a peer-reviewed, open-access periodical whose aim is to provide a scientific forum for colleagues conducting research on East-Central Europe at home and abroad.
The specialist area of the responsible editors of the journal is related to the four historical eras of research on East Central Europe – ancient history, medieval and early modern history, modern history and contemporary history. The editorial board of the paper is made up of the collective of historians present at the Institute of History in Eger, as well as external experts. The editorial team of the paper justifies the magazine's thematic diversity, the issue-by-issue approach to different eras and topics, the focus of which is specifically on the East-Central European region.
The journal is published twice a year with studies in Hungarian and English under the auspices of the Institute of History of Károly Eszterházy Catholic University. The paper is "Acta Universitatis de Carolo Eszterházy Nominatae. Sectio Historiae" c. legal successor of a scientific journal.
Peer Review Process
The journal accepts original manuscripts with sound theoretical and methodological foundations. The journal is unable to accept publications intended for reprinting.
The journal's editorial board checks all submitted manuscripts for compliance with the journal's form and content guidelines. After that, the submitted papers are evaluated anonymously by two or more reviewers. The reviewers are experts in the given field and have no institutional relationship with the author.
Decisions regarding the acceptance, revision or rejection of the manuscript are subject to the following rules:
- If both anonymous professional reviewers comment favorably, the study can be accepted into the journal.
- Likewise, if both invited professional reviewers comment unfavorably, the study will be rejected.
- If the invited reviewers suggest minor changes, the author is invited to revise the manuscript, which is forwarded to the editors.
- If both opinions suggest a major revision, the author is asked to revise the text and resubmit the manuscript, which is then sent for a new evaluation (either to the reviewer(s) who raised the original objection, or to a third reviewer).
- If the reviewers do not reach consensus after reviewing the revised version of the article, the editors will either contact a third reviewer (if no such action has been taken previously) or submit the article to the editors for a final decision on acceptance or neither.
The authors
The authors prepare their work according to the rules of scientific communication. The sources used are properly referenced in the thesis. If the author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his own published work, he is obliged to immediately notify the editor-in-chief of the journal and cooperate with him in withdrawing the paper or making the appropriate correction.
The editors
The editors may not disclose any information about the submitted manuscript, with the exception of the author(s), the invited professional reviewer(s), other editorial advisor(s) and, where appropriate, the publisher's staff. The editors of the journal may not use unpublished materials published in the submitted manuscript without the written consent of the author(s). Among the submitted articles, the editor-in-chief of the paper makes the final decision on which ones will be published in the given issue.
The professional reviewers
The professional reviewers evaluate the manuscripts anonymously and help the author and the editors of the journal to improve the manuscript and make other editorial decisions. If the reviewers see that the manuscript is not suitable for publication, or that there will be no time to prepare the review, you must immediately notify the editor-in-chief of the paper so that a new reviewer can be invited. All manuscripts received by the editorial office of the journal must be treated as confidential documents.
The professional evaluation must be prepared objectively. The reviewer may not express personal criticism of the author. At the same time, the reviewer's opinion must be clearly and comprehensibly formulated, supported by appropriate professional arguments. If possible, the reviewers will identify works not cited by the authors. The reviewer must draw the attention of the editors to any substantial similarity or overlap between the given manuscript and any other publication of which he is aware. The reviewers must treat the information obtained during the peer review as confidential and must not use it for personal gain.
The International Advisory Board
The journal's International Advisory Board helps the journal's editors with their comments to raise the quality of the journal. The board members can recommend researches, manuscripts related to the journal's themes to the attention of the editors, assist in dissemination of the journal among researchers, readers, and they can also suggest topics for the special issues and comment the calls for papers.
