Dance is one of the most ancient, multifaceted forms of communication in human culture, which can be understood not only as a physical activity, but also as a complex method of emotional, cognitive and social development. Especially in childhood, dance plays a significant role in the development of self-expression, emotional regulation, empathy and social relationships. Music and dance movement forms in the context of physical education are receiving increasing attention in sport and educational sciences, both nationally and internationally. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of music and dance movement forms on the mental, social, emotional and cognitive development of pupils in primary school physical education. The quantitative descriptive research was conducted by interviewing 150 physical education teachers using an anonymous online questionnaire, who judged changes in students’ behaviour, emotional reactions and cognitive performance based on their own teaching experiences. The study focused on three main dimensions: (1) affective skills (e.g., stress reduction, self-confidence, emotional regulation), (2) cognitive functioning and memory (e.g., attention, learning skills), and (3) social skills (e.g., cooperation, empathy). The results show, in line with the literature, that music-dance movement forms have a positive impact on students’ mood, self-confidence, social relationships, and concentration. Our results may contribute to further strengthen the legitimacy of dance within the subject and support the need for its methodological application in the service of complex personal development. The paper places the empirical findings in the context of the literature and makes suggestions for further development of practice in schools.
