Pilates has gained international attention over the past 25 years as a quality of-life fitness activity that teaches body use among healthy people. Research on this topic is still in its infancy at home, and the aim of this literature review is to examine the international recognition and awareness of the effectiveness of Pilates. To this end, a search of the EBSCO digital database of peer-reviewed studies was conducted. From a total of 15016 studies on a given topic, the analysis of 18 publications written in English was found to be relevant to the topic of the present study. Based on the analysis of these studies, there is consensus that Pilates gymnastics is an effective way to improve coordination and especially conditioning skills, while it works the body and mind through breathing. Research agrees that it has a core-strengthening effect, but opinions are divided on whether it is the most effective form of core-strengthening exercise. But there is disagreement as to whether it is the most effective form of muscular strengthening exercise. The intensity and length of Pilates exercises affect their effectiveness. The great advantage of Pilates is that it can be done regardless of age, as the diversity of research studies has shown. Summarising the research reviewed, it can be said that the musculoskeletal and quality of life benefits of Pilates gymnastics are effective when practised regularly and consistently. To summarise the research reviewed, the musculoskeletal and quality of life benefits of Pilates gymnastics can be achieved through regular, sustained practice. It would be worthwhile to use the results of international research to carry out domestic research, to carry out such research and to put the conclusions into practice to help develop the physical activity dimension of health-conscious behaviour.
