Author Guidelines

General Policy

The Eger Journal of English Studies publishes original papers and book reviews in any of the conventional fields of English Studies, including literary analysis and criticism, linguistic theory, applied linguistics, culture and civilization, language pedagogy, etc. The editors may consider manuscripts on American Studies for publication, but it is not the journal’s main profile.

In accordance with this profile, authors are kindly reminded to use British spelling and to avoid specifically American usage and vocabulary as far as possible.

It is our policy to be flexible about the length of manuscripts. However, we publish submissions outside the range of 3,000 to 12,000 words (including notes and bibliography) only if they come up to outstanding academic standards otherwise.

Book reviews are limited to 1500 words. Authors are kindly requested not to exceed that limit under any circumstances. We encourage authors to provide a proper title for their review (other than the details of the reviewed book).

Authors should use parenthetical citations (author-date system) keyed to their reference list throughout the manuscript. Footnotes for citations are unacceptable and content notes – if any – should be kept to a minimum.

Papers should use font Times New Roman and should be single-spaced throughout, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides.

For specific rules on formatting, the reference list and citation, please download the Author Guidelines. For issues not clarified there, turn to the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style or the Chicago Quick Guide online (https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-2.html).
