The role and process of education are rapidly changing, as demanded by the ‚new digital’ or Generation Z and Alfa. Physical education and sport are not exempt from these changes. In previous decades, physical education teachers were convinced that everyone likes to play. Therefore, when teaching sports games, their only task was to ensure that the rules of the game were followed after teaching and practicing the specific technical elements of the sportgame. Practical experience has proved that this teaching method is not effective, as only a small percentage of pupils are able to apply to the game what they have learned. Therefore, constructivist learning theory, which emphasizes understanding and conscious application of the tactical elements of the game, is becoming increasingly prominent in the teaching of sports games at the international level. However, in our country, these approaches are still in their early stages, both in competitive sports and physical education classes. The purpose of this paper is to examine Nahalka’s (1997a, c) arguments for the use of constructivist pedagogy in the teaching methodology of physical education classes.
